🌿 Coffee grounds: a beauty secret for you and your plants...
At Café Castelo, we believe every bean counts, even after brewing. While our passion is artisanal coffee roasting, our mission goes beyond the cup. Today, we're sharing one of our little secrets that makes a big difference: coffee grounds.
This residue that many throw away without thinking is actually a powerful ally for beauty, the garden... and even the planet.
💆 1. Coffee grounds, a 100% natural beauty treatment
Coffee grounds are rich in antioxidants and caffeine, making it a choice ingredient for:
-
Gently exfoliate the skin
-
Stimulate blood circulation
-
Restore radiance to a tired complexion
-
Reduce the appearance of cellulite
Quick homemade scrub recipe:
-
1 tablespoon of coffee grounds
-
1 tablespoon of coconut or olive oil
→ Massage in gentle circles on the face or body, then rinse with lukewarm water. Result: soft and revitalized skin.
🌱 2. Fertilizers and garden care
Did you know that coffee grounds can replace some chemical fertilizers? In addition to being rich in nitrogen, it helps to aerate the soil and stimulates soil microorganisms.
Here's how to use it:
-
Directly at the base of the plants (vegetables, perennials, herbs)
-
Mixed with the soil from the garden or vegetable garden
-
Add it to your compost to speed up the process
-
As a natural repellent against slugs and ants
💡 Don't throw away your coffee grounds-filled filters! Let them dry, then sprinkle them in the garden.
🏠 3. Natural home air freshener
Coffee grounds have remarkable absorbent properties. They neutralize persistent odors in several places:
-
A bowl in the fridge to replace baking soda
-
In shoes or sports bags
-
In a small dish at the bottom of the bin
-
Added to a homemade candle for a subtle fragrance
💡 DIY express: Dry some coffee grounds and put them in a cotton sock. It's the perfect air freshener for your car or laundry drawer!
🔁 4. What Café Castelo does with its coffee grounds
Our goal: zero caffeine waste.
We are currently looking for local partners to give our coffee grounds a second life, whether by:
-
🌾 urban agriculture
-
🧴 Natural cosmetics
-
♻️ industrial compost

We love hearing your ideas, recipes, and homemade initiatives. If you have a tip, a beauty routine, or a garden blooming thanks to coffee, share it with us !
Because together, we can do more than just drink good coffee. We can make it a sustainable, responsible… and frankly useful gesture.
