At Café Castelo, our passion for coffee goes hand in hand with a deep commitment to environmental responsibility. We understand the importance of protecting our planet and are actively committed to reducing our ecological impact through a variety of sustainable initiatives. Here are just a few points from our eco-responsible policy: 

Eco-friendly packaging

We have chosen to use recyclable and soon biodegradable packaging for our products. This decision reflects our commitment to minimizing waste and encouraging recycling among our customers. By reducing the use of non-biodegradable materials, we are contributing to a significant reduction in our carbon footprint and better waste management. We have a program with our outlets for the reuse of all packaging to not only be able to recycle it all, but to give them several lives before the recycling bin. 

Deliveries 

For every order placed on our online store, we plant a tree in partnership with Eden Reforestation Projects. This initiative enables us to make each delivery carbon-neutral, offsetting the CO2 emissions generated by transporting our products. It's our way of actively contributing to reforestation and the fight against climate change.

Recycling coffee grounds and beans

Coffee grounds, a by-product of our roasting process, find a new life thanks to our partnerships with players in the agricultural and cosmetics sectors. These collaborations enable coffee grounds to be reused as fertilizer and as a component in cosmetic products, transforming what could be a waste product into a precious resource. We also offer coffee grounds free of charge to farmers, protecting their agriculture by giving a second life to waste products. 

Improvements in roasting

We have installed an "Afterburner" system that reduces up to 95% of the volatile organic compounds emitted during roasting. This system ensures that the air emitted is cleaner, contributing to a significant reduction in local pollution. What's more, switching from propane to natural gas in our roasting processes further reduces our environmental impact.

Product innovations - R&D department

We are proud to develop and market eco-responsible products, such as our Universal Grinder, which uses up to 50% less coffee per infusion. This innovation not only reduces coffee consumption, but also the emissions associated with its production, which accounts for 80% of greenhouse gas emissions in the coffee life cycle. What's more, our specially treated coffee capsules for reusable machines offer a sustainable alternative to disposable capsules, guaranteeing a perfect brew every time. Our aim is to offer the most eco-friendly way to drink coffee at home, in the office, whatever the coffee maker.
